  • 16 slices white sandwich bread, crusts removed
  • 16 slices deli ham (or cooked breakfast sausage)
  • 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon dry mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ cup chopped green onions (optional)
  • ¼ cup chopped red bell pepper (optional)
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Crushed cornflakes or panko breadcrumbs for topping
  • ¼ cup melted butter

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Place 8 slices of bread on the bottom, covering the dish.
  3. Top with ham slices, then sprinkle evenly with cheese.
  4. Add a second layer of bread over the cheese.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, Worcestershire, mustard, onion powder, and salt.
  6. Add chopped green onions and red bell pepper, if using.
  7. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole.
  8. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.
  9. In the morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
